Spring Steel Kung Fu Broadsword

The saber (dao) is used defensively and most often used for blocking. The dull, back edge of the blade blocks, followed by stabbing or cutting with the sharp edges. The saber is considered the prince of short armaments, and is traditionally learned before moving onto sword (jian) training.

Saber care TIPS

  • When you show your saber to someone who knows nothing about it, be sure to tell the person what to do before handing it to them. this will protect your saber and will prevent injury.
  • Never lay your saber on the ground. It will absorb moisture (bad), and somebody may step on it (really bad).
  • Never touch the blade with your bare hand. The sweat can accelerate corrosion.
  • Avoid unnecessary cutting with your blade. Too much cutting will shorten the saber's life.
  • Always keep the saber sheathed when not in use.
  • After use, apply a light coat of metal grease or oil to the blade.
  • The wood handle and scabbard should be treated with a wood polish. Our Tai Chi Ball Polish will work well for your swords wood components.
  • Stick with practice sabers until you are ready for a real saber. Real sabers are really sharp. Be smart.
