Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming gets to the core of how to condition the dāntián (丹田, or “elixir field”) and why it is beneficial for you. In traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts, the dāntián is understood to be the center of vital energy and a source of physical and spiritual power. The lower dāntián, located in the abdomen, is responsible for the storage, transformation, and circulation of energy throughout the body.

The dāntián is often referred to as the “second brain” because it is also considered a center of consciousness, intuition, and emotional processing. Western cultures recognize this with the expressions, “gut instinct” and “trust your gut.” By cultivating and harnessing the energy (qì) in the dāntián, practitioners can enhance physical health, martial capability, emotional balance, and spiritual development.

In this course, Dr. Yang teaches you

  • qìgōng theory and dāntián conditioning exercises
  • massage techniques to produce and store more energy
  • with follow-along segments that allow for easy practice and repetition

This video lesson is excerpted from Master Yang's longer Sitting Qigong Exercises program.
